Course overview

  • Learn to calculate emissions from electric freight vehicle operations in accordance with ISO 14083.
  • Understand the various data sources available for determining the energy intensity factor.
  • Derive energy provision emission factors using both location-based and market-based approaches (e.g., the use of Renewable Energy Certificates - RECs).
  • Differentiate between the requirements of key standards, such as the GHG Protocol.
  • Calculate emission reductions compared to conventional vehicle operations and assess their impact on procurement decisions (e.g., through abatement cost analysis or carbon pricing).
  • Explore the potential of the Book and Claim system in the context of eTruck operations.
  • Two group coaching sessions as a follow-up after the course for SFC Members.
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion (Upon completion of the course whether live or by following the recording).

Why should I take this course?

This live, virtual training teaches you how to calculate and report electric freight vehicle emissions according to the ISO 14083.
The use of electric vehicles in the road freight sector is still in its early stages, despite the market acceleration in recent years, and the relative technical maturity of the products. The business case of electric vehicles comes primarily from the deep emission reduction it enables and growing market for low carbon transport services.

Taking this training will give you the confidence and skill you need to forecast, calculate, report, and interpret electric vehicle emissions data. And will be valuable not only to individuals who need to improve their reporting (or support compliant reporting), but also those who are working to transition their organization (or clients) to electric transport services.

If you feel this training may be too advanced or would prefer to begin with the fundamentals of road freight electrification, we recommend the following learning path:
- Introduction to Road Freight Electrification
- Electric Vehicle Emissions Calculation

As this course builds your knowledge of the ISO 14083, it would be ideal if you are comfortable with the standard. While not a prerequisite, it is recommended that you have taken the:
- GLEC & ISO 14083 Calculation Workshop

This step-by-step approach will help you build the necessary foundation before diving into emissions reporting and data interpretation.
