Both solutions support the electrification of heavy-duty transport, but they are designed for different operational needs.
  • Battery swapping: prioritizes speed, with turnaround times of just 5–7 minutes. This makes it well-suited for high-utilization fleets, time-critical routes, and controlled corridors. However, it requires standardized batteries across manufacturers and more complex infrastructure.
  • Plug-in charging: whether depot-based or public fast charging — offers greater flexibility and scalability. It aligns with existing global standards and is easier to deploy across mixed fleets, but charging times are longer and can place higher demands on the grid.
However, the choice goes beyond speed versus scalability. Each pathway comes with different implications for infrastructure complexity, cost models, grid impact, and long-term risk.
