In this episode of Smart Freight Conversations: The Leadership Series, we speak with Marisa Sánchez Urrea, Global Head of Decarbonization at Brambles, about how one of the world’s largest logistics platforms is cutting emissions and building collaboration across its subcontracted transport networks.
What does decarbonization look like in global logistics?
Brambles, known for its operating brand CHEP, manages the world’s largest pool of pallets, crates, and containers through a circular share-and-reuse model. About 60 percent of its emissions come from subcontracted transport. Since 2020, Brambles has reduced freight emissions by more than 15 percent and total Scope 3 emissions by over 14 percent.
How can collaboration accelerate emissions reduction?
To tackle these challenges, Brambles works with customers and retailers to optimize freight movements through backhauls and rail lane sharing, cutting emissions by up to 70 percent. The company has more than 30 projects underway focused on low- and zero-emission fuels, including a three-way partnership in the UK to transition to renewable diesel.
Why does sustainability matter for business success?
Progress depends on data sharing, trust, and cooperation across the supply chain. For Brambles, sustainability creates business value by attracting customers, investors, and employees who want to be part of a company that leads by example.
