How Shared Depot Charging Solves the Overnight Charging Gap 

As charging demand grows and an increasing number of smaller organizations are looking into procuring e-trucks, the question of the most feasible charging solutions for small-medium sized fleets has come to the forefront. On-the-road highspeed charging can be as convenient as fueling a truck with diesel but faces high costs and the increased complexity of ensuring routes pass by such charging stations. Building chargers at your depot allows for easy overnight charging but requires high upfront costs and commits your organization into a high level of e-truck usage from the start.  

An emerging solution is semi-public shared depot charging. The basic premise is a depot charging solution that sites behind the fence of a single property and is primarily utilized by that property owner. Any excess utilization is then used by neighboring organizations with specific agreements or open to the public during set times. This can be defined in contractual agreements. 

Alternatively, a logistics park landowner can invest in building depot charging facilities which are then made available to their tenants and neighbors.  

The benefits of constructing semi-public shared depot charging are threefold and address some of the biggest issues facing e-truck deployment today. It reduces the cost of charging (therefore, the total cost of ownership of an e-truck), it ensures charging infrastructure nearby your operations (therefore reducing the complexity of organizing charging) and it de-risks the investment into charging infrastructure (therefore reducing the overall risk of the high upfront investments that e-trucks require).  

Investing into semi-public shared charging is a smart choice when developing your organizations e-truck capacity. It encourages cooperation with like-minded organizations and addresses the key issues facing e-truck deployment today.
