What is the difference between self-paced and live courses?

Self-paced courses are on-demand e-learning modules that you complete in your own time. They are typically introductory courses and include videos, readings, and quizzes that you progress through independently. You have access to your self-paced course for 6 months from the date you sign up, or the date access is granted.

Live courses are instructor-led, scheduled, virtual workshops. These are typically intermediate level, application-based trainings, allowing for group discussions and practical application of knowledge through exercises. You have access to your live, virtual course for 12 months from the date you sign up, or the date access is granted.

How long do I have access to my course?

Access duration depends on the course format:
Self-paced courses: 6 months of access from the date you sign up, or the date access is granted.
Live virtual courses: 12 months of access from the date you sign up, or the date access is granted. Within that period, you can review materials, rewatch recordings, and complete assessments.

Who can benefit from the courses offered by Smart Freight Centre Academy?

Our courses cater to a wide range of learners from logistics, sustainability, operations, finance, sales and procurement teams. We have tailored offerings for varied groups of learners.
For beginners or individuals new to sustainable freight and logistics who need core concepts and fundamentals our self-paced e-learning course are often the best place to start.
For learners or those familiar with the basics and ready to move into action and implementation, our live virtual trainings are a great place to get ready to move into action or focus on scaling up your efforts.

How do I use the course player and track my progress?

Once enrolled, enter a course to see its curriculum (modules/sessions). The Academy's course player has navigation on the left side – click each module to view videos and content.

For self-paced e-learning courses: complete any quizzes or activities within each module to mark them complete. Your progress bar or checklist will advance as you finish sections. If you exit, you can log back in and resume where you left off. You will need to complete all the tasks in a course in order to access your certificate.

For live, virtual training: You can view and access all course materials including slides, recordings and extra readings or exercises via the course player. If you have attended the live session, your attendance will be captured. If you missed the live session, you will need to review the content online before your attendance is captured. You will not be able to claim your certificate until you have completed the required content or met the attendance criteria for each course.

For any issues with the player (e.g. videos not loading), try refreshing or a different browser. If the problem persists reach us out at academy@smartfreightcentre.org

Can I cancel or change my course enrollment?

Please contact academy@smartfreightcentre.org for assistance - these requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Are there prerequisites for training?

There are no prerequisites for self-paced e-learning courses, but intermediate level, live virtual training programs require prior knowledge. These courses do not cover the basics. Therefore, we strongly recommend taking an introductory course on the same subject prior to the intermediate course, if you are not familiar with the subject. We offer introductory courses that complement all of our intermediate level courses.

As an example: If you are new to the GLEC Framework your ideal learning path is: 1. Introduction to the GLEC Framework 2. GLEC and ISO 14083 Calculation Workshop.
